Acumen acquires West Yorkshire based Chemwaste

Acumen Waste Services Ltd (Acumen), the national provider of waste management and industrial site services solutions has announced that it has acquired, for an undisclosed sum, the share capital, sites and associated assets of Chemwaste Ltd (Chemwaste), the West Yorkshire-based hazardous waste management and environmental services business, from Bradley Park Waste Management Ltd.

With Chemwaste providing complementary hazardous waste treatment and transfer capability, this transaction represents a further stage of Acumen’s bolt-on growth strategy, following on from the acquisition of Highspeed Ltd in 2017 and the establishment of hazardous liquid treatment capacity at Harewood Whin in 2018.

Andy Crossley, managing director at Acumen said: “We’re pleased to have completed the purchase of Chemwaste whose service offerings, locations and assets will complement the wider Acumen business. We look forward to integrating the business to provide service and value enhancements to our customers.”

The acquisition sits alongside a number of recent high-profile contract wins for Acumen and further demonstrates its strategic approach to service development and business growth.

Simon Towers, director Bradley Park Waste Management, commented: “We’re delighted to have completed the divestment of Chemwaste to Acumen. Acumen are a leading provider in this space and are, therefore, well placed to ensure the continued success of the business.”

In support of their BEST initiative, a team of Yorkshire advisers supported Acumen on this transaction including Kaira Clarehugh and Gina Rhodes of Clarion Solicitors in Leeds and Justine Stalker and Chris Holden of Saffery Champness in Harrogate.

Mark Whelan and Neil Giles from Quercus Corporate Finance and Mark Gaffney and James Thompson of Squire Patton Bloggs advised Bradley Park Waste Management.
