CityFibre continues full fibre rollout in York connecting even more homes to the best available digital infrastructure
Thousands of internet users in York will be able to connect their homes and businesses to the best available digital infrastructure thanks to progress made by CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform.
CityFibre is continuing its rollout in new areas of York, including Clifton Moor, Fulford, parts of Huntington and the City Centre, to ensure that even more homes and businesses can choose to connect to full fibre-enabled broadband services when they go live.
In York, customers can sign up to internet services from CityFibre’s UK launch partner Vodafone, on selected Vodafone Pro Broadband plans, as well as TalkTalk, Giganet, Zen, IDNET, No One, Hyperfiber, and many others.
York’s rollout is due to reach completion in 2024 where almost every home and business locally will have access to full fibre services from a range of internet service providers.
Kim Johnston, Regional Partnership Director for CityFibre, said: “We are pleased to be back building in York, boosting the area’s digital capabilities even further and making it one of the best-connected cities in Britain. Once connections go live, residents and businesses can reap the benefits of reliable, lightning-fast broadband from multiple internet service providers.”
York is part of a growing number of locations in the UK to benefit from CityFibre’s full fibre rollout, which will bring new and better broadband infrastructure within reach of up to eight million homes and businesses nationwide.
Roy Grant, Head of ICT at City of York Council, added: “Fast and reliable connectivity is essential for our communities. The way we work and connect with each other is evolving, and the rise of hybrid working and media streaming means that improved digital access has never been more important. It is great that further investment is being made in York to ensure that more and more of our residents and businesses can access world-class digital infrastructure.”
Unlike copper-based ‘fibre broadband’ services available today, full fibre networks use 100% fibre optic infrastructure to carry data at lightning speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users consistently faster speeds for upload and download (up to 1,000 Mbps), near limitless bandwidth so everyone at home can work, study, stream or game simultaneously, while providing connectivity users can depend on.
Construction is being delivered by MakeHappen Group LTD on behalf of CityFibre. The team is using a range of construction methods while working in close partnership with the City of York council and local communities to deliver a fast rollout while managing any potential disruption.
