Local family lawyer nominated for prestigious award

A prominent family lawyer and co-founder of Yorkshire-based law firm, Consilia Legal has been shortlisted for a prestigious Resolution Award, which celebrates the achievements of family justice professionals who have supported families and children during a global pandemic.

Family lawyer and mediator, Laura Clapton has been nominated in the “Resilience” category for going above and beyond to support staff and clients through the challenges of the pandemic.

This news follows a trio of nominations for the firm at this year’s Yorkshire Legal Awards. Co-founder of Consilia Legal, Marie Walsh has been shortlisted for ‘Partner of the Year’ and the firm has been announced as a finalist in both the ‘Small Firm of the Year’ and ‘Family Law Firm’ categories. The winners will be announced at an event at New Dock Hall in Leeds on Thursday 7th October.

Commenting on her nomination, Laura said: “I am delighted to be nominated for the Resilience Award and to be recognised by my peers and by Resolution. I am proud to be a member of Resolution and champion its Code of Practice in my work, which promotes a constructive and non-confrontational approach to family issues such as divorce, separation, and child arrangements.

“I am also incredibly proud of the firm for being recognised in three Yorkshire Legal Awards categories – this is a great achievement in light of such a challenging 18 months.”

Juliet Harvey, National Chair of Resolution, said: “With so many high-quality, well-argued and convincing entries, the judges had an extremely difficult job whittling down the nominees to a shortlist. Laura should be very proud to be recognised for their work in this way, and I wish them the best of luck for the Awards ceremony which will take place on 22 October as part of our showpiece Family Practice Conference.”

The 2021 Resolution Awards consist of four categories: YRes Rising Star Award, Working in Collaboration Award, the Resilience Award and the John Cornwell Award.

The judging panel was made up of Juliet Harvey (Chair, Resolution), Remyhs Baker (Chair, Resolution EDI Committee), Pauline Fowler (2020 John Cornwell Award Winner) Andrew Watson (Chair, Resolution Standards Committee), David Emmerson (Chair, Resolution Dispute Resolution Committee) and Jane Craig (former Resolution Chair).
