New built-environment advisory firm GenNorth launches to support levelling-up agend

GenNorth, a new advisory firm focusing on the property and construction industry, has launched, with a focus on helping firms respond to a post Covid world and deliver on the Government’s levelling-up agenda. Founded by Richard Shaw, who has held senior positions in globally respected advisory firms and has a wealth of sector experience, the firm will be launching on August 1st and will initially be working primarily across Yorkshire and the North East.

GenNorth will focus its efforts on three service areas: Growth Advisory; Programme and Project Management; and Workplace Consultancy. Bringing over 25 years’ experience within these disciplines, the business already has a raft of well-known clients in the built-environment sector. The business will seek to offer sound business advice, rooted in experience and insight along with effective consulting solutions to enable clients to generate a sustainable future.

Capitalising on increasing calls to actively address the North/South divide, and with signs of additional funding streams for initiatives in healthcare, college and school buildings, town centre regeneration, infrastructure projects and landmark developments, it will help organisations overcome economic and structural hurdles in addressing this challenge.

Richard Shaw, director of GenNorth, said: “The built-environment sector is changing at a speed never seen before. Nowhere is this exemplified better than in The North, where the opportunities are huge and the demand for investment is gathering pace. Addressing inequalities and the impact our society has on the environment is a challenge of our times, and both private and public sector organisations are starting to grasp the nettle.”

“We are a socially conscious business, focused on people and generating opportunities through the built-environment. We’re ambitious, and our prior experience places the business well to support clean growth and help effect real change right across the asset lifecycle. We’ll look to embed our expertise and work collaboratively with a range of sector-leading and like-minded businesses, to help deliver results and deliver value.”

Although a new business, from its inception, GenNorth is aspiring to secure B Corp Certification which is a relatively new model for business that demonstrates a real focus on being a force for good through meeting the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

In addition to access to a broad associate network of specialists in complementary disciplines, GenNorth is seeking to grow quickly and is actively seeking forward thinking, socially conscious consultants to both strengthen and broaden its team.

Based in the centre of Leeds, GenNorth has its sights set initially on delivering value across Yorkshire and the North East – areas well-accustomed to talk of levelling-up. Industries such as green energy, infrastructure and low-carbon construction are key growth areas in many parts of these regions and promised investments will mean a range of opportunities for businesses, supporting new long-term jobs and helping to generate a sustainable future for previously ‘left-behind’ communities.
