Yorkshire Building Society named as one of UK’s top ten family friendly employers

Yorkshire Building Society has been named as one of the UK’s top ten family-friendly employers for the first time by independent work-life balance charity Working Families.

The mutual has secured one of the top spots alongside the Crown Prosecution Service and the Welsh Parliament (Senedd Cymru) on the charity’s list of Top Employers for Working Families.

Now in its twelfth year, employers from across the public, private, and third sectors are eligible to be included in the list. For the previous four consecutive years, the Society has been in the charity’s top 30 employers, and 2021 is the first time it has made the top ten.

Employers were assessed using Working Families’ Benchmark and were scored on four key areas to build a comprehensive picture of their flexible and family-friendly policies and practices that specifically support mothers, fathers, and carers.

The Society has supported colleagues through the pandemic by offering unlimited dependants and carers leave, embarking on a colleague-led approach to our future ways of working after the pandemic and introducing colleague networks which are supported by an Inclusion and Diversity Committee

Tracey Newton, Director of Colleague Experience, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been named as one of the top ten UK employers for family-friendly policies. At Yorkshire Building Society, we believe offering flexibility and family-friendly policies is essential to an inclusive workplace, enabling all of our colleagues to fulfil their potential, regardless of their circumstances. It’s been a really difficult year for everyone and we’ve tried really hard to make sure we have advanced inclusivity and diversity while many of our colleagues have been working from home. This award is real testament to the hard work and commitment of our team in delivering a flexible, inclusive workplace where everyone can achieve their career goals.”

Jane van Zyl, CEO of Working Families, said: “After an incredibly difficult year for employers and employees alike, we’ve been blown away by the high standard of this year’s entries. If anything, it’s been more competitive than ever, as more and more employers realise just how vital it is to offer flexible, family friendly policies and a positive, inclusive culture to attract the most diverse talent. I’d like to congratulate each and every worthy member of our Top Employers list 2021”
